Steve enjoyed a long career with the Salisbury Fire Department. After being hired in 1974, he was promoted to Captain in 1984. Steve was promoted to Assistant Chief in 1991 and retired from that post in 2004.

He was a life member and former President of AMSA (Assateague Mobile Sportsman Association) and a longtime member of the Elks and Moose Lodges in Salisbury and Redmen's Lodge in Fruitland.
